VPNs that can be paid for anonymously

What this filter checks

Anonymous payment here means: the provider demonstrably accepts at least one route where neither a name nor bank details reach them. Three catalogue criteria are checked, namely cash by mail, Monero and gift cards bought in retail shops. A provider appears as soon as one of those three is backed by a source.

Bitcoin deliberately does not count here. Bitcoin payments are pseudonymous, not anonymous: the blockchain is public, and exchanges usually hand over payment trails after an identity check. If you are looking for Bitcoin or Lightning, both exist as their own rows in the matrix.

An anonymous payment route alone does not make an account anonymous. If the provider additionally demands a verified email address or a full name, that is recorded in the criteria for signup and account model. Both are documented on every provider profile.

The rule lives in the source code and is only read out here. It is a condition on catalogue criteria, nothing more.

At least one of the following conditions must hold.

  • Cash by mail has the value yes

    pricing.cash_by_mail

The provider accepts banknotes sent by post in an envelope together with an account number or reference code. No bank or card record then links the payment to the account, though the envelope still travels through the normal postal system and the sender decides what return address to put on it.

  • Monero has the value yes

    pricing.monero

Monero is a cryptocurrency that hides sender, recipient and amount at the protocol level, unlike Bitcoin with its openly readable ledger. This records direct acceptance by the provider, not a detour through a conversion service that re-links the payment to an order and often to an identity document.

  • Retail gift cards has the value yes

    pricing.retail_giftcards

Prepaid cards sold in supermarkets, petrol stations or electronics stores can be bought with cash and redeemed with the provider later, for example Paysafecard or major retail chain cards. This records direct acceptance during checkout; if the route runs through a reseller, that reseller's own registration and data rules apply.

Which level of evidence counts

For this filter the levels confirmed and provider claim count. Disputed and unsourced cells drop out. Confidence levels in detail

Not a ranking. The page lists providers for whom a statement is sourced. If someone is missing, it may be missing evidence, not the property.
